A strong data management foundation is essential for any organisation. Without it you can struggle to get the insights you want, or worse you may not be able to trust the information you have.
Penfold Data Solutions can assist with all aspects of data management including:
We are also experts in designing and developing web-based information management systems using ASP.NET and SQL Server.
Our experience includes both on-premises and cloud-first designs and includes clients from a range of industries including engineering services, medical research, community services, and marketing.
Get in touch...Data analysis is the process for turning your data into information and knowledge that can then be used to answer questions, make decisions, or trigger actions. Some of the areas we can help with include:
Summarising data and identifying trends are simple but important first steps to increase your understanding of your organisation.
Reports and dashboards are key ways of communicating important information to operations teams and managers. They should be designed to make issues visible as early as possible and to support decision making.
Data visualisations are often the most powerful way to communicate critical information to the people that need to understand it and act on it.
Penfold Data Solutions are experts in SQL, R, and a range of other analysis and visualisation technologies, including Power BI, Tableau, ggplot2, Google Charts, and SQL Server Reporting Services.
Analytics and BI are important, but they need to be part of a broader strategy that addresses how critical information flows around the entire organisation. How does everybody get the information they need, when they need it, and in the most useful format?
If you think you could benefit from a more coordinated data strategy, we would be happy to chat with you.
Get in touch...To move beyond what BI can tell us on its own, we must start applying machine learning techniques. These can help us in the following ways:
Improved Predictions. From more accurate revenue forecasting to more accurate recommender systems, machine learning can be applied to a range of prediction problems. For example, a predictive model could be trained with existing customer data and then used to make predictions about new customers.
Improved Understanding. If our aim is to better understand a complex process, we can create a mathematical model of it using advanced statistical modelling techniques. Although these have some commonalities with predictive models, the focus is on explaining differences and quantifying variability, rather than prediction.
Improved Segmentation. Machine learning techniques, such as clustering, can be applied to customer and product data to help identify and characterise more meaningful market segments.
With a background in scientific research, applying machine learning methods to a range of research problems, we now bring that same scientific rigour to all of our industrial and commercial projects.
Get in touch...We like to work collaboratively with our clients.
Practically, we can work in a couple of different ways, depending on your current needs. If you already have a clear idea of your requirements we can sometimes provide a fixed-price quotation for undertaking the work.
However, usually it is very worthwhile investing some time upfront to make sure we have a shared understanding of what is required and why. To do this we might suggest a half-day discovery session where we get together with relevant stakeholders to refine requirements and document other important project parameters.
We are flexible with how we work and will try and fit in with your requirements.
Penfold Data Solutions is based in Brisbane, Australia. However, even before COVID many of our projects were completed successfully without ever meeting face to face, so we can help you wherever you are in the world.
Get in touch...My background is in scientific research, machine learning, databases, programming, and information management systems. Coming from a research background has had an enormous influence on the way I work, bringing scientific rigour, objectivity, and a healthy scepticism.
As a consultant I have worked with companies and community organisations across Australia and overseas, helping them transform the way they use data.
I have a PhD from the University of Queensland, applying machine learning techniques to problems in rainforest ecology, and a Graduate Certificate in Data Science from the University of New England.
